I received a sampler of Daregal Gourmet fresh frozen herbs to review as a part of a Blog Friendly PR campaign. All opinions are my own and no compensation was received.
Ever heard of Daregal Gourmet? Neither had I until one day I was shopping in the frozen foods aisle and saw fresh frozen herbs in these cute little white boxes. I was very interested in them, and wanted to see if they were truly fresh. So when I got the opportunity to test them out on my blog, I was excited about the timing – I had literally JUST spotted them in stores. Well now was my chance to test them out!
I’ve made a few recipes with the herbs over the last few weeks, I’ve added the garlic and parsley to soups and basil to sauces. But, I thought for the real test of the flavor and freshness, I should have them fresh, not cooked down. I want to try the fresh frozen herbs as-is. I tested the fresh frozen chopped basil in one of the easiest recipes – caprese salad bites, it’s a mini caprese salad appetizer!
Caprese Salad Appetizer Recipe
1. Slice 1-2 small tomatoes
2. Slice fresh mozzarella cheese (same width as tomatoes)
3. Place mozzarella cheese on top of tomato and then sprinkle fresh frozen basil from Daregal Gourmet on top.
4. Place toothpick directly in the center of the appetizer.
5. Drizzle with balsamic vinaigrette if desired.
**This is a quick, simple, but elegant appetizer. It is fresh and flavorful. Plus – bonus: I added an additional basil leaf from my home herbs and used my tomatoes from the garden! It is a wondrous fresh summer garden dish!
Overall take on Daregal Herbs
I really enjoyed the ease of these pre-washed, chopped and ready to use herbs. It was much more convenient than doing my own drying or freezing of my own garden herbs, or going to the store. They are easy to sprinkle on meals or into dishes with their well-designed carton. They are fresh, flavorful and don’t require defrosting – they win in my book – especially with a shelf life of 3 years in the freezer! Dang!
