Did you know that more than 12,000 laptops get left in U.S. airports a week?! (According to a 2008 study of 106 airports in 49 states.) Approximately 7% are lost in restaurants, 9% in restrooms, 23% at departure gates and a whopping 40% are left at security checkpoints.
I am sure many of these get returned to their owners…but don’t take the risk!
Simple Security Tip 1: Put a sticker with your name and number on the outside of your laptop, so security personnel can get in touch with and to get you your laptop back! Or better yet, they’ll page you while you are still in the airport!
Simple Security Tip 2: When headed through airport security, be aware of the order of your items you put through the conveyor belt. Put your shoes in the last bin!
Why? So here is what I do – I always put my bags, toiletries, etc first. Then in the last two bins I put my valuables and the final bin my shoes. That way all of your valuables are already collected and you put your shoes on last! I guarantee you won’t walk away without shoes!
Plus I always want to have an eye on my laptop and valuables. I don’t like them going on the belt without me – because sometimes those bins get out of the scanner before I go through the detector!
