1 oz. (2 Tbsp.) caramel syrup
1/2 oz. (1 Tbsp.) vanilla syrup
1-2 oz. (1/8-1/4 cup) Espresso (or extra strong brewed coffee)
6 oz. (3/4 cup) milk
1 cup ice (using the tip above!)

Instructions:
Combine all ingredients and stir well to blend flavors.

Optional: (For the sweet tooth): Top with whipped cream and dust with powdered sugar.

✴✴If you like chocolate better, just substitute chocolate in for caramel! Or just plain vanilla latte? Then leave the caramel out completely! This iced coffee recipe is very versatile! Enjoy!

Review: Blue State, Red State Coffee

Logo-Red-State-Blue-StateWe consume coffee. A whole heckuva lot of coffee.

My husband alone usually drinks 4 to 5 cups of coffee a day. The first cup starts at home and usually the last cup he drinks at home too. The other cups of caffeine he sips during his loooong workdays. So to say the least, we spend a decent of money on coffee and getting the ‘good stuff’ is important to us.Blue-State-Red-State-Coffee

I am always up for trying new brands, because you never know what you might find! Blue State Red State is a new brand to me. I’ve never heard of this coffee, and I’ve never seen it in stores… but that makes sense because it is typically bought online.

There are a few differences in this coffee than other coffee brands, for instance how they donate part of their profits.

They recently launched a mission to give Americans the opportunity to buy quality products to support the causes that matter most to them, beginning with coffee. But it’s all political. No really… they donate 33% of the profits to either the Democratic or Republican causes based on which coffee brand you buy.

Blue State Red State, operates three distinct brands as follows:

• Blue State Red State – donations to charities and politically neutral non-profit organizations
Blue State Blue – donations to Democratic advocacy groups
Red State Red – donations to Republican advocacy groups

But I don’t like politics. In fact I try to stay out of it. And now all this drama with the Governator…. Arnold, oh, dear, Arnold…you’re no different from the rest. Oh, back to the coffee… Right, so since I don’t like politics and don’t really want to donate to EITHER side, there is a coffee for me too, the flagship Blue State Red State brand donates 33% of profits to non-profit organizations. That’s more like it.

We taste-tested the Ramparts Roast coffee. Ramparts Roast is our stronger blend – robust, deep and bold with a delightful smoky accent! This two pack contains a 12 oz. bag of each.

We really enjoyed the taste of this coffee. It is flavorful, high quality, has a lovely aroma and just good. One of the perks about this coffee is it is ordered online and delivered right to your door! We are enthusiastic about the fact this coffee is fair trade, shade grown and organic pieces of this coffee.

Grounds For Change–Organic Fair Trade Coffee

Grounds-For-Change-LogoI am impressed. I am thoroughly impressed with this environmentally-friendly coffee company, Grounds for Change. If their company name doesn’t speak for itself, well then, let me! So first I am going to brag about the company itself….

—— Organic —— Shade Grown —— Fair Trade Certified —— Carbon Free ——

Fair-Trade-Certified-Organic-CoffeeThe farmers use really neat conservation practices which help them  cultivate their coffee with minimal impact on the surrounding ecosystem. Take the fact that this coffee is “shade grown.” So what does that mean exactly? Well while most coffee growers will take down forest areas in the climates where coffee grows well, Grounds for Change realizes that it’s better for the environment (and the taste of the coffee) to let the coffee trees grow under the natural shade of hardwood trees! So not only is this more ecologically friendly but it allows the coffee to grow as it was intended, under the protective shade of tropical trees!

IMG_3605As we all know, more and more consumers are not only asking "Is this good for me?" but also "Is this good for the workers and the environment?" According to a recent study, 90% of Americans say it’s important for companies to be mindful of their impact on the environment and society and 70% say they’re more likely to support companies that do! The growth of Fair Trade products proves that consumers are voting with their purchase for a better world and demanding sustainable, ethically sourced goods nationwide.

Fair Trade coffee supports a better life for farming families in the developing world through fair prices and community development. Fair Trade basically helps small operation famers prevent large operations from dictating what price they have to sell their product at. It’s a market principal that sustainability advocates can get behind. Grounds for Change gets behind this concept 100% and I definitely applaud their efforts.

Now about the coffee… The aroma of the whole bean organic coffee immediately filled our kitchen as we opened up the package we got from Grounds for Changed.  My husband (he’s the coffee drinker) was really excited to get at this coffee once he had a few whiffs!! We made sure to store the coffee in its whole bean form in an airtight container at room temperature and once my husband ground some up for his morning cup of coffee here are some of the things he had to say: “It’s not over roasted, no burnt beans like we unfortunately always seem to get with some of those other brands!” He also told me that he likes the “excellent” smoothness, full body, and “syrupy finish” the Agate Pass Blend had. As if that wasn’t enough he told me that he likes this coffee because it tastes like super fresh Coffee-Gift-Boxfarmers market coffee and has much fuller flavor than the more popular brands found in every store!

So…one last thing before I sign off on this select scrumptious super bean coffee! Christmas is just around the corner and if you have a coffee lover in your family then you’ve already been thinking about how PERFECT of holiday gift option Grounds for Change coffee would be!! Your family or friends are going to love Grounds for Change’s ethical business model paired with the delicious coffee in the assortment of gift boxes that Grounds for Change has to offer! Free Wi-Fi coming to Starbucks!!

It was announced on June 14, 2010 – Starbucks is now going to offer Wi-Fi at all company-operated Starbucks stores in the US. Starting July 1, 2010 you’ll be able to enjoy free, one-click, unlimited Wi-Fi!

What does it  mean?

  • Free – no Starbucks Card required (FINALLY!)
  • One-Click – no username or password needed
  • Unlimited – no 2-hour restriction (like before) !!!

Personally, this is a huge deal for me.  I love Starbucks, but whenever I went to use my card to access the internet I felt it was a hassle and just not worth it. You had to have a card – no exceptions! AND there was a time limit… so just forget it!  But after July 1 – it will be available to all! This is so beneficial for those that like to relax and surf while sipping their cup of joe!

Starbucks also announced that  free Wi-Fi is just a start. Howard Schultz announced a new digital experience we’ll be launching at Starbucks stores across the country later this fall – I am a little unsure what this will entail but I hope more great to go along with the free Wi-Fi!! I am so glad Starbucks finally realized it was time to offer free Wi-fi, after all, the little guys are doing it!
