I received NoGii gluten free protein bars for free from the sponsor of the Moms Meet program, May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer. My opinions do not reflect the opinions of May Media Group LLC or the manufacturer of this product.
Why I am Gluten Free
Rewind forty or even twenty years ago when nobody even knew what the term “gluten free” meant. We didn’t talk about it, we didn’t get a medical diagnosis for it and we didn’t see it on food labels in the store. Now fast forward to today. I bet you know someone who is gluten free – either celiac, intolerant, sensitive or as a lifestyle choice. Maybe it’s you?
Gluten is a touchy subject for me. I have been told by doctors to cut it from my diet to help with my IBS symptoms. Although my colonoscopy showed I didn’t have celiac disease, I am considered to be sensitive to the gluten protein. I am one of those people that chooses to avoid gluten not because I am allergic to it but because it helps with my health issues.
AND please… for heaven’s sake… don’t judge people who choose to eat gluten free (or lactose free or nuts or whatever) when they don’t have an actual allergy to it. We don’t do it because it is trendy or hip or cool. We aren’t deluded or snooty. It is typically more expensive and very inconvenient – it is not an easy choice! Just don’t judge the non-celiac individuals who make a choice to be gluten free, they most likely have a good reason – and it is not to be trendy.
Health benefits of going gluten-free have been experienced by numerous consumers who by going gluten-free have had improvements in many long-standing health issues.
Ok, so that is my story. What’s yours?
Elizabeth Hasselbeck’s Gluten Free Story
Since receiving this NoGii gift box, I have been buried in Elizabeth Hasselbeck’s book, The G Free Diet. She writes about her personal story and what it took to figure out what was making her sick. GLUTEN. I find her writing easy to relate to and I like her honesty. Her book is great for gluten free beginners. She makes you feel comforted in choosing gluten-free, no matter what reason for being gluten-free.
Beyond her story, she shares the “gluten free survival guide” which is everything about starting and living a gluten-free life. Some topics she covers in her book are where to find gluten free alternatives, how to read labels, creating healthy shopping lists, and managing the gluten free life around family and friends.
