My Thoughts:

I have had an on-again, off-again bout with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It is something that comes and goes, and as far as I can tell usually has to do with stress and my diet. When I am eating well with a little stress, I am fine. When I am highly stressed and/or not eating well I am doomed. This book is a nice reminder of the foods that I should eat and why I should eat them. It touches on the main topics for IBS relief like gerd, constipation and diarrhea. There are recipes to follow too. It is a simple guide for beginners.

2) Body, Mind, and Spirit “Vitamins” for Your Whole Health By: Gary McKay PhD, Wayne Peate , Erik Mansager

About the Book:

Three experts: a physician, a psychologist, and a spiritually oriented clinical counselor intertwine their experiences and knowledge to address the “whole you”. They show that there is no gap between physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of health; all aspects are interrelated and it’s powerfully helpful to see this way. Blending their approaches produces a result that is greater than the sum of the parts — like a “human quilt” — each contributes to a healthy, satisfying life. In this book, you’ll learn how your body’s health affects your mental and spiritual health and how to take better care of your body. You’ll find how your mind affects your physical and spiritual health and how to take care of your mind. And you’ll be shown what impact your beliefs about the meaning of life — your spirituality — have on body and mind and how to nurture your spirituality. Discover techniques to help you manage many challenging life issues including stress, depression, aggression, addiction, chronic illness, and aging. Learn to identify how you’re functioning, what you can do to improve, and how to examine, plan, and track your progress.

My Thoughts:

I found value in many of the chapters in this detailed guide book. I enjoyed reading about different topics of body, mind, and spirit. I can see how different chapters will be applicable to me in various times of my life, when not all of them are applicable to me currently. I loved the many examples and real life stories. I am beginning to take snippets of the chapters like “Meditation and Movement” and “You’ll Live Longer if You Die Laughing: The Value of Humor” and now applying them to my life.

 4) The Frozen Shoulder Workbook: Trigger Point Therapy for Overcoming Pain and Regaining Range of Motion By:Clair Davies NCTMB, David G. Simons MD

About the Book:

Powerful Techniques to Relieve Shoulder Pain and StiffnessAuthor Clair Davies’ own case of frozen shoulder led him to undertake an extensive study of trigger points and referred pain that eventually resulted in his best-selling Trigger Point Therapy Workbook. Now this renowned bodywork expert and educator revisits the subject of frozen shoulder with The Frozen Shoulder Workbook, offering the most detailed and comprehensive manual available for this painful and debilitating condition, a useful resource for self-care-with and without a partner-and for bodywork practitioners looking to expand their treatment repertoire.

Frozen shoulder, the syndrome name for several joint and tendon-related symptoms, is experienced as a loss of motion and pain in the shoulder and upper arm. It is most often observed in women between the ages of forty and sixty and individuals with type-two diabetes. Unlike traditional medical treatments for the condition, which rely on painkillers, steroid injections, and physical therapy and often do little to moderate symptoms or speed recovery, trigger point therapy can bring real and lasting relief. This gentle massage technique targets localized areas of tenderness in soft tissue. Put it to work for you to relieve pain, restore range of motion, and shorten recovery times.

 5) Overcoming Health Anxiety: Letting Go of Your Fear of Illness By: Katherine Owens PhD, Martin M. Anthony PhD

About the Book:

If you experience troubling symptoms, it’s only natural to worry about your health. But if your anxiety persists even after doctors tell you they can find nothing wrong, it may be hurting you more than it helps. You might research medical conditions on the internet, exercise constantly, or check your body for signs of disease, all the while growing more and more consumed by worry. And that worry has consequences of its own—the never-ending cycle of anxiety can all but destroy your quality of life.

If you’re ready to stop being overly preoccupied with fears about your health, Overcoming Health Anxiety offers an evidence-based approach called cognitive behavioral therapy to help you get started. You’ll learn the difference between people with health anxiety and hypochondriacs, find the root of your health anxiety, and challenge illness-related thoughts. In time, you’ll drastically reduce your fears and enjoy a life free from recurring health-related worries.

This book has been awarded The Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies Self-Help Seal of Merit — an award bestowed on outstanding self-help books that are consistent with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) principles and that incorporate scientifically tested strategies for overcoming mental health difficulties. Used alone or in conjunction with therapy, our books offer powerful tools readers can use to jump-start changes in their lives.

My Thoughts:

Everybody is talking about inflammation and it’s relationship to disease. There are studies about inflammation correlating with cancer, Alzheimer disease, IBS and even migraines! I was very interested in this book because I know many people who suffer from migraines and wanted to find out more about what might help them. I was very facinated by this book and the details that is covers about the research-based information on phases of migraines, risks and benefits of migraine medication and the migraine free eating plan.
