Using this hands-free dog leash belt was unexpectedly better than I imagined. It changed the whole feel of a jog with my dog. It is nice to have some storage around my waist for the poop bags and having my hands free made it seem easier to run more naturally. I tested this hands free dog walking belt on a gorgeous sunny day in Colorado, and here are the results.
What is a Hands Free Leash Belt?
Basically this is a thin fanny pack that has 3 zipper pockets, I mesh pocket and a carabineer attachment that you attach your favorite dog leash to. You buckle it around your waist and it allows for hands-free jogging, walking, running, hiking or other activities.
There is a clip on the back and there are two sides to adjust the size. I have a small frame and had it on the smallest setting. I adjusted it to sit like a belt on my hips, and as I ran it moved up on my waist. This should fit small to large guys and gals. It would be loose on extra small people though. It says it fits “Waist Sizes 28¨to 51¨.
Is it comfortable?
I would say yes, this belt is comfortable. It has a padded mesh lining. When I ran with it, it moved around a little, but stayed put once my dog and I got a rhythm. My stomach was a little itchy after the run from the fabrics rubbing together, but not much more than usual from a run.
Does it work?
This belt is great for both well trained small and large dogs. Just hook up the leash to the carabineer and be on your way!
Personal Experience
This is a wonderful way to enjoy a run or walk with my dog while keeping my hands free! I must be honest and say that she is a bit of a “puller” at first and she can be difficult to walk. I have to wear her out beforehand, so that she won’t pull the whole time. Once she calms down, this belt is awesome! If you have a “tugger” you might want to be careful, otherwise you could get dragged down the path! It is best for trained dogs!
We started out at a slower pace, just walking and then ran, the belt was comfortable and felt secure even when she tugged.
I love that this dog belt comes with zipper pockets and a mesh pocket. It was great for carrying my keys and cellphone. You could easily fit even more in this belt (ID cards, dog clicker, treats, toys)! I can see both my husband and I using it with our active pup for walks, hikes and more runs!
My Recommendation
I would highly recommend training your dog before using it, so that they don’t pull or lunge. It is really nice to have your hands free, but it also makes you a little more vulnerable if your dog is rambunctious. I think this belt is great for dog owners that get annoyed with holding a leash. It makes running easier!
Where to Buy It
Right now this belt is fairly priced under $30! You can purchase this dog running belt in either Green or Pink on Amazon!
