I was browsing the internet, (welcome to my life) and ran across Bonsai Sandals. I had never heard of these, how can that be? Sheepskin sandals…what an idea! They looked like the most comfortable sandals in the universe! Were they? Read on to find out!
About Bonsai Sandals
The company began when the owner decided one day that there needed to be a flip flop out there as comfortable as his sheepskin slippers. So he came up with Bonsai Sheepskin Sandals… and thousands of feet are now thanking him for it!
About The Product
Bonsai Sandals combine the total comfort of a sheepskin lined boots with the casual freedom of a flip flop. They currently come in 4 color options – brown, black, pink and blue. The sizes are: Womens (5-10 US) and Mens (8-12 US). They can be worn on your feet in all seasons, including both the summer or winter.
The Bonsais have a pliable leather strap, robust arch support, supportive sole, and a thick layer of sheepskin. Bonsais will conform to the contours of your feet over time in a way that standard flip flops can’t. The sole is initially stiff to maintain support over the life of the sandal, but gradually softens in specific areas as you break them in. The sheepskin footbed provides a second layer of comfort that molds to your feet.
Cool Fact
GENUINE sheepskin keeps your feet cool in the summer, and warm in the winter because of the unique “thermostatic” properties. Sheepskin wicks away moisture, and the rise and fall of your feet as you walk (“flip flop style”) allows the sheepskin to vent (unlike boots or clogs). Which means your footbed stays dry and comfortable. About My Experience
I got a pair of the brown Bonsais for my husband to test out, because I knew he was going to love them. When he slipped them on, his feet were instantly in heaven. But immediately after, he worried that these were only winter sandals. Which then, I proceeded to tell him about the genuine sheepskin facts, how they are great for both winter and summer! And now that he has worn them multiple times in the Colorado summer, he can tell you he is no longer worried they will be ‘too warm’. Just as advertised, the sheepskin is thermostatic and doesn’t heat up the foot!
But we had a second concern. Since I’ve had sheepskin in shoes before, I know that the sheepskin can get matted down. I’ve never really worried about it because the sheepskin was always inside shoes (like my Bearclaw or EMU Australia boots) so you couldn’t see it. But with Bonsais the sheepskin is right there on the sandal. But my worries diminished as I read the care instructions. I was pleasantly surprised the process is pretty simple really.
The care instructions are: use a narrow and gentle vacuum to recharge your sheepskin. If heavily soiled, gently wash with a very small amount of Woolite and air dry. Use Ugg’s sheepskin cleaner/conditioner if lightly soiled. If you keep your feet clean, your Bonsais will be too.
Overall, the worries we had about the temperature and the care of the sandals have been cleared, and my husband just loves these comfortable flip flops! It’s so neat that there is such a sandal that keeps feet warm in the winter and cool in the summer!
