Disclosure: I received the iLUV Professional Workstation iPad Air in exchange for this review.
There are so many features that I love about my new iLuv Professional Workstation. I’ve been playing/testing it out for about a week now, and I truly believe the folks at iLuv have thought of everything!
The Professional Workstation is a portfolio jacket with detachable Bluetooth keyboard. This all-in-one case fits the iPad Air 2 and the iPad Air. Here is my quick video review on the iLuv Professional Workstation:
About the Bluetooth keyboard:
The keyboard is the same length of the iPad Air, which is smaller than your typical keyboard. It fits inside the portfolio and stays in place with the magnetic backing. It has a battery life of 30 days when on standby mode or 5 days while being used continuously. The keyboard is nearly identical to your average keyboard, except it has a number of quick controls and functions to work with the iPad device. The list of the “hot keys” are on the top of the keyboard, which makes them easier to use than having to memorize them!
The keyboard is Bluetooth enabled, so it doesn’t need a cord to connect to the iPad. Yay for no wires! I have tested the keyboard from a few feet away (just far enough that the iPad screen was becoming blurry from the distance) and it still worked. I don’t see any reason to use it any further than that!
Although the keyboard is petite, I am happy to report that the keys are spaced out enough that it really isn’t as bad as I was expecting. I am able to type pretty fluidly, and my hand is comfortable on the smaller keyboard.
And guess what guys?
I used the keyboard to write this whole post!
About the case:
The case itself can be used with or without the keyboard. It converts into a iPad stand when simply taking the keyboard off (no cord, remember?). When you adjust it, the iPad can sit in a variety of angles. This is nice when you don’t need the keyboard, great for watching movies or playing a game on your iPad.
Can you still reach the buttons and the camera?
Yes! I am pleasantly surprised that the buttons are very easy to push when the iPad is in the case. The camera lens has a cut out in the case to allow for photos while the iPad remains in the case. Which means, no need to maneuver or take the iPad in and out of the case for simple tasks.
Does the iPad Air 2 stay upright?
Yes. I noticed the more angle the better. I can push hard on the iPad screen and the case keeps the iPad steady in place when it is tilted in about a 90° angle. In this position, the keyboard can sit on the magnetic strip with about 2 inches left on the case. This position is great for using both the keyboard and tablet.
Is the iPad case sturdy?
The case has a thick binder. It is thicker than most cases I’ve seen. However, this case should not be thrown around. The iPad simply sits in the bracket, the edges are not covered completely. I think this case is can protect your iPad, but you should be careful not to drop it, place heavy items on it or toss it about.
Is the case secure?
The magnetic outside closure is very strong! I was able to lightly shake it to test if it would open, and it tested to be strong enough. I shook it a little harder, and it did open up. The magnetic closure strap should be fine for everyday use, in a laptop bag or backpack, I wouldn’t worry!
Last thoughts on the iLuv iPad case
This Professional Workstation is so nice to carry around in place of my laptop. The detachable keyboard makes typing on the iPad manageable! I love the fact the keyboard is removable. The sleek black jacket makes this a very professional looking case. So far, it’s been with me on vacation and to-from work. During this time, I have been pleased with the quality and the battery life.
