This past week my husband and I took off work and went on one last summer trip. It was our only real trip this summer and I am glad we could squeeze it in to take advantage of the remaining nice weather. We had be planning our adventurous trip that started in Spokane, WA and ended back home in Denver, CO for months. The trip started with a one-way airplane ticket, buying a truck in Idaho and then driving it home and seeing the sights along the way. It was going to be an epic road trip!
First stop – Washington! We flew in early in the morning and got picked up from the airport by the car dealership. They drove us to Idaho where the dealership was located. We spent the better part of the day going through the process of buying the truck. Inspecting it, talking to service and parts, signing papers with finance… you know vehicle buying stuff! My husband was so excited to have his first truck! And a beauty the truck is! (I don’t care much about cars – but he does – and I think he did a great job picking out this white Chevy Colorado!)
After the keys were officially ours, we headed to the store to get groceries and the remaining camping gear that we hadn’t lugged with us on our flight from Denver. After buying some canned food, fresh breakfast items, paper towels, matches and a few other road trip necessities, we checked out the small town of Kellogg, ID. We had dinner at a local restaurant, walked around downtown, booked a room at the motel and slept hard that night – ready to begin our road trip adventure!
In the morning we had a bit of breakfast before we got in the truck to head to Montana. Neither of us had even been to Montana and we were giddy excited to go! On our road trip through Montana, we went as far north as you can go, camped by a pristine lake, saw 4 bears, chatted with a 98-year old park ranger, dogded closed roads because of the forest fires, spent the night in a old log chapel, drove the road to the sun, had huckleberry ice cream every chance we could and explored Glacier National Park. Montana was amazing and we loved it more than we even thought we would.
Driving through Wyoming was beautiful as ever. We absolutely loved Yellowstone National Park so we took our time driving through. We looked for wildlife and checked out the geysers. A little further south, we met up with a friend and he joined up for a night of camping in the Grand Teton National Park. We spent the afternoon sun bathing in hammocks on the beach, reading, relaxing and paddle boarding Jackson Lake.
After Jackson, we made the long trek home. Sadly the trip had to come to an end, although we both agreed we could have spent a month on this road trip – there is so much to see in Washington, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming! Also, we desperately needed to do some laundry. We were dusty, dirty and smelled like campfire. After all, I did wear my one pair of prAna Kara jeans for 5 days straight! They are my go-to favorite pants, they never fail me – even on an epic road trip like this!
