Contigo Stainless Steel Travel Mug

Guest Post from my Husband: Karissa doesn’t like coffee as much as me… in fact, I’m not sure that anyone likes coffee as much as me. I’m not talking about those fruity frappachinos or orange-iced-mocha-lattes or what have you… I’m talking about good ole fashioned black drip coffee. This is the good stuff. I drink it by the bucket full. That being said, you can imagine my elation when my beautiful wife came home with a brand new Contigo® travel mug to carry around my first shot of morning coffee in!

Now as soon as I saw this coffee mug I didn’t even ask (I usually wait for Karissa to get around to opening her blog packages!) I just tore into this mug and put it to good use right away. The first thing I will say is that the Contigo is no coffee travel mug brand to shake a stick at. I have had multiple Contigo coffee mugs in my day and they’re all still with me! They go everywhere with me… they’ve been camping, skiing, travelling out of the country with me…you name it and these coffee mugs have been there… even my family has a few and they swear by them!  This new, handle-less, stainless steel, auto sealing coffee mug is no different! The mug is of phenomenal quality and build and works just as it should if not better!

The first thing I will say is that it seals automatically, every time, perfectly.  This is a huge deal for anyone that drinks coffee in the car (uh, are there any coffee drinkers who DON’T drink in the car?) as it will automagically seal up when you’re done drinking to make sure that whatever road hazard you encounter leaves your dash and console coffee-stain-free!! I should explain briefly how the magic happens… you see, the mug is actually a push-to-drink mug so when you want a sip, you push down the button and it opens up for your hot and tasty beverage to come out…

The seal doesn’t just keep the beverage in… it also keeps the hot on the inside. Beverages stay hot for 4 hours or cold for 12 hours. This is a major plus. If, by some small miracle, I have a splash of java left by the time I get to work it’s still mostly warm by the time I get OUT of work …and that’s no small feat!  The Contigo coffee mug keeps it hot and that’s important!

In order to be an entirely accurate and fair review I do want to point out a couple of minor gripes… one is the size (16 oz.) … now I may be abnormal when it comes to my coffee consumption but I’d sure like a handful of extra oz’s in this sucker… and you do have to be careful if you overfill it because I found on one occasion that some coffee (or coffee-substitute beverage) came out of the top when I screwed the lid on while it was overfilled. But this is minor… I mean, what cup isn’t going to spill if you overfill it?! I mean come on. 

Other than that, this travel mug is straight up winning. I’m a huge fan and it’s already replaced my previous Contigo mug as my go-to, number one cup holder buddy for my morning commutes. The combo of the fact that it keeps my beverage piping hot and that it seals up tight for those errant pot-holes really makes this an amazing coffee beverage dispenser and transport unit. I HIGHLY recommend it.
