The Summer is wrapping up, but do you have one last adventure planned? Maybe for labor day weekend you’re jumping in your car and hitting the road? But before you leave – you’ll want to make sure you take care of a few things in anticipation for your road trip.
The last thing you want to do is go on a road trip and run into problems. That is why I’ve got some tips for you on simple things to check and repair on your car before road trips.
The six thing to check before your road trip include: battery, fluids, brakes, A/C, exterior, and emergency kits. There are lots of individual tips and trick to check these things which are conveniently located in the infograph above. Don’t you love infographs?
The above chart quickly spells out the items to check before a road trip without making it too complicated. It is basic and easy to understand. Even for a non-car person like me!
If only I had looked over that infograph before I went on my prior road trips. It’s so helpful! It would have come in handy for the time I ran out of anti-freeze in a terrible Colorado winter storm. The funny thing is, I never forget about all my other fluids, but anti-freeze slips my mind! One thing is for sure, after that terrible experience, it never will again.
Another very handy point of interest is jumping batteries. This seems to be one of the most frequent car troubles I have had, and probably many of us. It is a common car problem, and isn’t always so severe. Did you know how to jump-start your car for the first time? I sure didn’t… So if there is one thing you should educate yourself on, it’s knowing how to jump start a car. I think this video is great about how to jump start your car battery:
Now, I may be a girl, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t check my fluids or know how to jump start a car! Those things are easy once you learn the ways to do them! As for more extensive car tune-ups, I’ll leave that to the professionals. But if I regularly take care of my car, I won’t have to take it in nearly as much!
One last thing… do you have an emergency kit in your car? I was just thinking the other day that I need to re-vamp mine. Currently, I have jumper cables, a blanket, gloves, flashlight, flares, long-lasting food bars and water in my emergency car kit. However I might add a few other helpful car emergency kit items like Fire Extinguisher, Hazard Triangle, Warning Light, Flares, Tire Gauge, Spare Fuses, Jack and Lug Wrench.
If you don’t have any Summer road trips planned in the near future, well maybe I just inspired you to take one?! There are many great reasons to take road trips. There is so much to see and explore in the United States, it is quite an amazing place – so go ahead take a road trip vacation! Also, it is a great way to spend some special time with a family member – take a father and son road trip, a mother and daughter road trip or a whole family road trip!
