While I do love every unique thrift shop in one way or another, there is one type of thrift store that I am particularly fond of. This is where it all begins for me, my favorite of all the thrift stores:
The Goodwill Outlet Store. It is also known as the “bins” or Goodwill Bins.
So, I told you I would tell you more about the Goodwill Outlet in my confession post, and now I am. Well, here is why the Goodwill Bins is special….
If you can believe this, everything is purchased by the pound (yes, as in lbs) instead of an attached price tag. When you check out, they actually weigh your items. Or, if you buy in bulk (most people do) they weigh your shopping cart. This place is crazy, and it is even cheaper than the standard Goodwill store.
I got addicted to the Goodwill Outlet World while I lived in Seattle. I shopped the big blue bins out of basic necessity. (1) I was poor when I first started as a flight attendant and couldn’t afford new clothes (2) I needed to make extra money, so I sold the stuff I bought. Crazy, right?
The stuff I found I sold to vintage stores, designer consignment stores and eBay. I made a part time job out of shopping at the Goodwill thrift stores. And actually I would say the majority of the people that are shopping there are doing just that.
They purchase stuff for cheap, go home to wash it, fix it as needed and sell it for more than they got it for!
Now, I didn’t make huge money doing this, but it was a good supplemental income to my pitiful paychecks as a brand new flight attendant.
Now-a-days I only sell some, mostly I shop for the thrill. I love it. I am addicted. It is so fun for me to dig through bins of nasty clothes, smelly antiques and stained furniture… just to find that one treasure that I never knew I couldn’t live without! 😉
