Dear John Doe, A marketing f-up

I normally don’t get my panties in a bunch from all the daily non-personalized emails. I mean, I actually understand how busy people are, because, HEY, I am busy too! Obviously-mass-marketed emails are necessity for businesses, I get it… no biggy, I won’t hold it against you… except this time.

This one I just had to share…

Really? Fill in MY name and forget to take out “Dear John Doe,”

That’s bad.

Personalized-emails-from-af

Very bad.

Should I email back and say, wrong email? Sorry this isn’t John Doe’s email address?

I bet the person was multi-tasking and probably noticed it after he or she hit the send button. Oh well, we all make mistakes sometimes.
It’s just a form letter, so forget it and move on.

I know I have templates I use for pitch letters, and once I noticed that I forgot to change out one of the sponsor’s names (still got the review though!). I was so embarrassed and I had already sent it. I think it’s funny that they use John Doe in there :)

Wouldn’t it almost be better if they changed the John Doe to like… Katie or something so then it would look like a ‘better’ accident! (I know I’ve done similar too with pitches… but I installed the “UNDO” button in gmail… highly recommend!!)
