Disclosure: I was provided a lavender essential oil for this article.
Essential oils have been a hot topic lately. It seems like there is an essential oil for just about every problem – disease, stress, infestations, weight loss and more.
While I am not an essential oil reseller myself, I do appreciate the power of the essential oils for the purposes that I use them for. I have used (or are currently using) lemon, thieves, peppermint and lavender.
Essential oils are unique in that their scent can activate a reaction. They are natural and a great way to apply alternative medicine. I have been doing a lot of research on lavender essential oil recently, it’s many therapeutic benefits. In fact, it is one of the most versatile and all around essential oils. That being said, I got my hands on some.
I choose this lavender oil from Amazon.com:
This lavender essential oil is steam distilled and therapeutic grade quality. It is 100% pure and comes in a glass bottle with a phenolic cap (two part seal) for further protection, and comes with a free dropper. Plus it has a 90 day money back guarantee if I didn’t like it (but I do!) So now what? Here are some great uses for lavender essential oils…
8 Uses for Lavender Oil
1. Relieve stress, anxiety and depression
Add a spritz of lavender essential oil before a big presentation or test to help anxiety and stress. It can also be added to your temples to help alleviate these mental states.
2. Rid a headache
Lavender is frequently used to relieve headaches. Simple mist distilled water and a drop or two of lavender oil around your head. You can apply topically to your forehead, temples or neck.
3. Treat insomnia
A few studies have shown the benefits of lavender and a good night’s sleep. Lavender is a natural solution and replacement to sleeping medication to help you sleeping problems. To help falling asleep, add a couple of drops of lavender essential oil to you pillow.
4. Aromatherapy
Lavender is a very pleasant smell. Beyond all the health benefits, it can also be used as a wonderful scent for your home. It can freshen laundry, be added to a sock drawer, put in a diffuser… or?
5. Relaxation
Many people add a couple drops to their bath for a relaxing cleaning. You can also cup your hands and add a couple drops then inhale softly. After you do the cupping method, add it to your bath, pillow, or place you need relaxing!
6. Insects and insect bites
Lavender works for bee stings and insect bites, it reduces swelling and stops the itching. Also, many insects don’t like the smell of lavender and will avoid it – moths, midges, and mosquitos!
7. Nausea and motion sickness
This one I am oh-so familiar with! Along with my favorite ginger, lavender oil also alleviates the symptoms of motion sickness from a car ride, boat or airplane. Before getting in any of these, just apply a drop to the end of your tongue, behind the ears, or around the navel.
8. Dry, chapped skin and lips
Fascinating enough, lavender is a great solution to dry skin and chapped lips. Just rub a drop on the dry, chapped or sunburned area for relief.
Lavender is pretty powerful. With all of those uses for lavender, it’s like a personal natural first aid kit. And that is not even all the magical uses for lavender oil. The list goes on!
