The windy and rainy days are coming, and the season of snuggling with your blanket while watching movies comes too. And if you just started to look for movies that can make that night even more special – here is a list of my personal favorite movies that are perfect for long fall evenings. Some of it are romantic, some of it are dramatic, and some of it are even scary. But all of it are fun to watch either alone or with someone else. So get a huge cut of tea, get a blanket and let’s start watching these 5 classic movies that are just perfect for the fall.
Autumn in New York (2000)
One of the most romantic movies ever made sets place in beautiful cold fall days in New York. The story goes about one elderly man who feels in love with a young and gorgeous woman while leaves are falling downs in the Centre Park of New York City. But after some short but passionate days together, it turned out to be a not so easy love story after all. It is actually about a terminally ill Winona Ryder and her aging lover played by Richard Gere. But in fact, don’t bother taking in the melodrama, take in the gorgeous scenery of Manhattan at its best and fell in love with fall even more.
Dead Poets Society (1989)
A little bit more complicated and dramatic movie called Dead Poets Society is also great to watch at cold and windy fall nights. It is a real classic tale of what many of public-school kids imagined prep school to be. With lots of strolling around a crisp, gorgeous campus in matching jackets and discussing poetry with an inspiring teacher. But not everything is so pretty and gorgeous. This utopia of young intellectuals is soon going to be damaged by some of their close-minded parents and administrators. But those fall-inspired hues in the whole movie and dark forest makes it not only a movie with an amazing story. It is also an amazing piece of art by cinematographers too.
Halloween (1978)
What kind of fall can be nice without at least one scary movie? Halloween is definitely a date in the calendar then all spookiness begins and this movie is also about that too. Revisiting the slasher film that set a new standard in the genre as a no-brainer this time of year. But it also is beyond all the terror and the convenient October setting, this flick movie just feels positively fall-like for sure. With a little bit of scariness too. So watch this movie the weekend before the Halloween and feel nostalgic right away.
Good Will Hunting (1997)
Although there are a lot of attention to the city of Boston in this film, it also shows how beautiful fall can be too. Especially in that famous park bench scene. Sean (Robin Williams) calls out Will (Matt Damon) on a park bench in front of a canopy of fall colors, reminding him (and all of us) that he doesn’t know what the Sistine Chapel smells like. So, what better setting for a neurotic math genius-janitor to make than some an amazingly beautiful New England’s fall?
You’ve Got Mail (1998)
The last movie I would love to recommend you is set in New York’s fall too. Although this is a romantic comedy set entirely by the book, it still creates a super cozy atmosphere of windy but colorful fall days in New York city. With the end at the Christmas time! And this movie is also a proof that love is in the air this time of year. And let’s not forget that famous quote of “Don’t you just love New York in the fall?” Tom Hanks asks his online lover that symbolized the whole spirit of the movie? We sure do, we sure do…
